What is MBBS?

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) is the degree you need to practise as a doctor in India. The course runs four and a half years, followed by a one-year compulsory rotating internship in a hospital.

Every MBBS seat in India (government, private and deemed) is filled on the basis of NEET UG. In government medical colleges, 15% of seats go to the All-India quota (counselled by MCC) and 85% to the state quota (counselled in Maharashtra by the State CET Cell).

Eligibility

  • 12th with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology and English
  • Minimum marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology as set by the National Medical Commission (lower for reserved categories)
  • At least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year

  • Qualify NEET UG (the qualifying percentile is lower for reserved categories)
  • Maharashtra state quota needs Maharashtra domicile documents as per the year’s rules

Admission process after NEET UG

  1. 01Appear for NEET UGYour NEET score and All-India rank decide every seat.
  2. 02Register for counsellingMCC for All-India quota seats, the State CET Cell for Maharashtra state quota. You can register for both.
  3. 03Document verificationCategory, domicile and other certificates are checked.
  4. 04Choice fillingThe list of MBBS colleges you fill decides your seat. We fill it with you.
  5. 05Counselling roundsSeats are allotted round by round.
  6. 06Accept or upgradeKeep the seat or try for a better one in the next round.
  7. 07Report to collegePay fees and confirm admission.

FAQs

Is NEET UG compulsory for MBBS?

Yes. Admission to every MBBS seat in India, including AIIMS and JIPMER, is through NEET UG.

How long is MBBS?

Five and a half years: four and a half years of study plus a one-year compulsory rotating internship.

What is the 15% All-India quota?

In government medical colleges, 15% of MBBS seats are filled through All-India counselling by MCC; any eligible NEET candidate from any state can apply. The other 85% are state quota seats for that state’s candidates.

Can I apply for both All-India and state quota?

Yes. They are separate counselling processes, and you can register for both.
